The Association of Chinese Geneticists in America (ACGA) is a non-profit organization formed by a group of American geneticists of Chinese ethnicity but its membership is open to individuals of any ethnicities. One of the missions of the Association is to facilitate the interaction between the US genetics community and their colleagues in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and other Chinese-speaking communities around the world. The goals of the Association include but are not limited to: to bring into close contact investigators in the field of genetics, to promote and encourage professional collaborations, and to provide a platform for social interactions to its members and Chinese geneticists worldwide whenever feasible. The organization is supported by membership dues and donations. Members are clinicians, researchers, and entrepreneurs in the field of genetics, including but not limited to molecular and biochemical genetics, plant and animal genetics, developmental biology, cytogenetics, clinical and medical genetics, genetic counseling, bioinformatics, genetic service providers, etc., from academic, research, clinical, and industrial entities. The organization is governed by an executive office headed by the President and under the supervision of a Board of Directors elected from active members. Election of officers and the annual meeting are held every year during the annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG). Dr. Peining Li of Yale University is the current president, and Dr. Wai Yee Chan of the Chinese University of Hong Kong is the current Executive Director.
